Like the vast decline of MySpace, when is the eventual end of Facebook and what will replace it?
when will big companies learn not to shell out big bucks for social networks only to watch them rapidly be replaced by something new?

I don't think it will ever go totally away, but I think it's in for a facelift for two reasons.
1) Young social networkers are finding out the hard way that what they post affects their job opportunities (future and current) as well as their school activities. Posting a photo of a HS football team at a beer party is not a good thing. 2) As companies begin to saturate the site with ads and spam, more people will turn to other methods of chatting (which it what it really is - conference call chatting).
