What would draw your attention to an up and coming artist?

I am working on strategies to get current fans more excited about an up and coming group and to draw in even more fans. I am focusing on the social media aspect. As a consumer, what would draw you to an artist and keep you around, besides the obvious good music. Contests, Prizes, consistency, etc?

I came to know about Lights,Breanne Duren and He Is We through Owl City.they have featured in the singles of Owl City or Owl City has featured in their singles.now,i love all of them.i think social networks and working with well-known artists gives exposure.
