The media basically controls society because it tells you what should be done and what sould not happen.

The media is a very important institution in social development throughout one's entire life. As it encompasses essentially every way in which people, companies or organizations communicate messages to each other (newspapers, tv shows, advertisements, online social networking, billboards, mail, etc) it is nearly impossible to grow up having never been exposed to some sort of persuasive messages via the media.

It plays a role in developing one's personal sense of self-identity, opinions or preferences, interpretation of how they see the world around them, purchase decisions, interactions with other people, etc.
