I've posted the link in a couple of forums I'm on and have written a few articles for ezinearticles.com and put the link in the resource box. I don't want to pay for google adwords right now because money is tight.

Driving traffic to any website follows a similar pattern. There are really only two ways, traffic you pay for and traffic you can get for free. Free traffic takes time and you do have to be very patient so don't give up.

For this answer I would recommend the following free methods:

High ranking in the search engines gets free organic traffic - as we all know this is easier said than done, and is a subject all on its own. In simple terms though it is about making sure your site is built with good on-page optimisation such as keywords in your URL, tags, Meta tags and unique content on your site. Off page optimisation is all about getting good and relevant backlinks. You can get free traffic and build backlinks by following my tips below.

Writing articles and submitting them to various article directories is also an excellent method. There are many directories so just type article directories into your search engine and sign up for free. Be sure to follow their guidelines or they will remove you.

Participating in forums and commening on blogs that are relevant to your business are also very good methods too. Don't spam these blogs and forums but make well thought out comments and don't link back to your site every time.

Use the social networks with care such as facebook, twitter, digg, delicious, squiddo, hubpages. Once again relate it to your website and continue to build your backlinks but please obey the rules of these sites or you will be removed and also damage your reputation.

When you develop a new page or a new blog post then use a service like pingomatic.com to inform the search engines.

Personally I recommend registering your site for free with Google Analytics and as you try each method, you can see which ones are working for traffic. You can also see if your site moves up through the search engines having completed your backlinking.

It is a lot of writing and a lot of hard work but it costs nothing but time.

You can use paid methods such as Pay Per Click with Google, Yahoo etc but you do really need to know exactly what you are doing and be very specific in which keywords you target. You can also do facebook ads but again you really need to think through very specifically what you are trying to achieve.

Good luck and I hope you get loads of traffic to your site.
