What do i do about this arguing about cancer?

there's a 9 year old fighting brain cancer and he lives in my township, and everyone in all schools and grades are trying hard to trend him on twitter telling him to stay strong and tell him that he's the bravest person ever, but i know it's very sad for him to have cancer and it really really hurts me. But i know the kids in my school don't care, they just want to look like they do. I try to tell them that its sad and all but most of them don't even know him and that there are so many people with cancer around the world and he's not alone. They should chill. am i right or wrong?
