Are people who talk about their personal life through the internet attention seeking?
I mean..Doing it on this site is okay because you're asking for an answer.

But I like many alt-rock/metalcore bands on facebook, their admins post stuff about how they used to cut or how bad life is (first world teens who fling the term 'depressed' around when they haven't even been diagnosed and they act like it's a small matter), they also say 'this band saved me' and a huge sob story to come with it.

But on their youtube pages are the worst, all the comments are really sad life stories, 'this band is keeping me from suicide' speeches and things like that.

Are people like that attention seeking?

In my opinion some are. The rest are seeking help or put their life experiences out there in hopes it can help or inspire others.

Some people may take it to extremes for attention seeking but others not so much. I've been diagnosed as depressed, I've self-harmed before and it's such a cliché but 2 bands saved my life. Through their music, lyrics, quotes of inspiration and understanding, it felt like I wasn't alone. Never underestimate the power of music. It does save lives. So before you go judging people like that, take a step back and try to see that not everyone on the internet wanting to talk about their difficult times are attention seeking.

Some are. But some like you mention do help people in a way.

I guess there is always a market for something.

You have a choice to look at what you want.

Probably both, attention & guidance. Gotta wonder if some people realise that police & FBI prowl/"spy" the internet?!?

Anonymous or secret accounts/pages are usually more likely to be genuinely in some shit.
Accounts with people professing and claiming EDs and SH as holy and perfect and fuck you world are usually young kids, some with developing issues, who think they know about the tough side of life and become oddly narcissistic/close minded.
Then there are attention seekers who put "subtle" hints on public pages with friends and family about being a tortured soul, which doesn't stand up to scrutiny if you watch them in daily life.
Unfortunately a lot of the lines cross and it can be hard to differentiate. My rule of thumb is to assume that they are in some shit. If that assumption fails, assume they soon will be in shit if you don't stop them.
Btw, some people who are attention seeking have mental disorders which cause them to act this way. Please please treat them with care and respect. Others are just spoiled or fancy being a tortured poet.
