Yes I agree Seo is really a new term in the field of career but i think it's scope is wide. Now the world is of internet, almost everything is becoming net based. As a seo this is also a great career ahead. As internet users are increasing, SEO will be increasing. so the scope will definitely increased. I am into this career from the last six years and I didn't experience any downfall

Yes, definitely if its worth to have SEO as Career. As you know industry is growing very rapidly and competitors are rising. People don't have much time waste on marketing, they need instant results without losing much time. I think SEO demands will grow much rapidly as the industry will grow. And hence to have SEO as a career is worth, IMO

If you are just entering this field without some significant education and background you will be forced to charge almost nothing to get your portfolio built up. So, the answer is yes - you can create a career in these, but experience is winning today over price.

After the US economy took a dive and everyone who ever took a marketing calls "reinvented themselves" as marketers, messed up thousands of businesses with their lack of real knowledge, agencies like mine are cleaning up. The real businesses (the ones with budgets) are hesitant to work with freelancers. They are learning the importance of having strategy, tools, management, implementation and ROI in their marketing.

Go work for a big firm first so you can learn and understand the landscape. For every story like Facebook there are thousands of fizzled and under-funded startups that will not survive.

Good luck!
