workgroup is a trademark'd term and their website workgroup.com is used to sell software. Url workgroups.com is purchased by a diff co. to make $ from ad's via a social networking.

Could trademark owner shut them down?

The trademark owner would have to notify them that they are in violation of trademark. If they do not respond, an attorney would need to send a letter asking them to stop using the trademark or face legal action. If they do not respond to that, then legal action would need to be pursued.

It's all a matter of how much you want to pay. The other site will most likely claim that they are using a generic term and the legal bills will begin climb. It then becomes a matter of who has the deeper pockets.
