Can a threat on facebook get me in trouble?

SO this guy is trying to ruin my relationship with my girl by saying ive been with this other girl but its not true and we found out for sure it was him.. and I was about to send a very threatening message to him to get him out of our business.. I basically said back off or your life wont be the same type of deal. ( i didnt send it yet).. But its only a threat if he does do it.. so is it perfectly legal or what?.. I would post the message but it has a lot of bad words.. sooo idk yet.. If so ill post it up in the additional details

It's not legal and if you are reported to the police (not just Facebook) you could get in very big trouble. Because you're sending it over FB, you are also giving him physical evidence of the threat.

any threat can be used againts you if he complains to police.. my advice never write anything down about doing something to somebody and hell.... dont even write stuff on FB, its a garbage site where people cant live well anyway so who gives a dam about what they think..
