Tag your posts. Whenever you reblog something, putting a bunch of tags on it will get people to look at it. You will eventually get followers because people look up tags on tumblr.

Reblog and like. Whenever you reblog or like something, it will come up in the description of the content for the whole of tumblr to see, giving you more exposure.

Post good content. This must not be overlooked, because if you want to become popular on tumblr, you need to actually have a good blog with good content.

Follow people with similar blogs to yours. read their FAQ (if they have one), and make sure they check out blogs. If they do, message them "check out my blog?" and they will definitely check out your blog and most likely follow since you have similar blogs!

Promotion for promotion. This means you leave someone a message simply saying promo for promo? They post your link to their followers and you return the favor. That may help to earn you followers, but don't do it all the time. It may get annoying. Plus, promo groups are going around. Reblog the posts and you might get into it! This will get you a lot more followers because people are there to help you!

Make friends on the website, it's the easiest way to gain followers.

Tell your close friends to get tumblr and follow you. People you know in real life are much more likely to follow you than people in the cyberworld who you don't really know.

Put your tumblr url on other social networks. If you have a YouTube, Twitter, or Facebook account, put it on there too so people can connect with you both ways. But be careful about facebook. a bunch of people on tumblr make fun of Facebook because of all the drama you go through at school. The point of Tumblr is to get away from people on Facebook, apparently.

Have a good theme. A lot of people will not follow a blog with a theme from the theme garden. Find a custom theme that looks neat and clean and you will gain followers more easily.

Post pictures of yourself. People are more likely to follow you if there is a face behind your blog.

Be nice and respectful to all of your followers.

Don't clog your blog with text posts.

Try to be on your blog everyday. People like consistency, and even though it's not fair a lot of people will unfollow you if you don't post for more than a day.

Make promo groups, make botw posts (if you have enough followers), and do double promos. Just keep doing continuous promos! It gets you tons of followers.
