Facebook Lawsuit? Regarding using your name and profile for ads without permission...?
Recently, through email I received a notice from Facebook saying that I was involved in a lawsuit where they had unlawfully used my profile picture in ads. It stated that I had choices to choose from, I could either do nothing or file a class action or something similar to a complaint. I remember hearing something about this on the news, but after doing some online research I can't really find any new
information or helpful information on this matter. I was wondering if anybody had received a similar email? Is this legit? All the contact and other information seem to match up. They advised me to do nothing at all, and we're trying to discourage me from hiring a lawyer. Lol that in itself makes me think that this might be legit, but I don't know really where to start. What type of lawyer I would need, or where should I take this email? Any suggestions, tips, and or advice?

I got the same E-Mail but I didn't know what it meant so one of the Options was to "do nothing" so that's what I am sticking to because I really don't feel like gettin involved with the court system and etc.

You know what's funny?
They can't use your picture for commercial purposes without permission, but they can sell your private information to anyone they choose to, without you being able to seek legal recourse.

It's funny, you know, because it's what happens in totalitarian states, but it's coming from the private sector, instead of the public. Haha! Capitalism fucks us all again!

It sounds fake to me. If anything, facebook would probably contact you via telephone.. Do nothing like it says. If it is fake, this technique of 'do nothing' usually makes you want to do something lol

It is legit.

But you would be wasting your time to even look for a lawyer.

You can either opt in to the class action lawsuit - in which case, you might end up with a couple of bucks at the end of the process.

Or you can opt out - which means you have to get your own attorney to sue Facebook. First, no attorney will take your case because you have little to no chance of recovering anything. (You don't even know for certain that your name and profile were even used. You certainly didn't suffer any damages.)

My advice is to opt in to the class action.
