Is facebook causing the next generation to be narcissistic?
Just wanted your guys comments on this.
Here's why I am asking:
In the last few years I have seen my generation grow up and the generation below me; with Facebook and social networks, and one thing that I have noticed especially but not just girls posting literally hundreds of pictures of themselves. Yet when you even comment on those pictures when talking to them they say things like "ohh I hate that picture" or "I hate how I look/myself" in my mind these people obvoiusly think wayyyy to much of themselves and Facebook is just a breeding/converting ground for this type of personality disorder.
People post pictures hoping they can get as many likes as possible if they see another person with more likes they feel the need to be more 'exposing' and wear (for a lack of words) slutty clothes in-order to gain more likes.
What do you guys think?
Bearing in mind that these people are probably posting these pictures wanting this 'like-kick' subconsciously because that is how Facebook culture seeming is programming our next generation.
I forgot to mention I am 18, I started social networking at around 15 years of age I got caught up in this 'like-kick' culture the only way I could see I was behaving like this was after going through some tough emotional times which led me to de-activate facebook. When I re-activated I saw how i was acting and was disgusted at my behaviour on there. I've seen this happening with people aged 14 all the way up to 19ish. It's been a worry for a year or so now, you'd have to see it through my eyes to get how bad things are.
I personally think there should be age restrictions; By law on what age you can join a social network.

Very true. Facebook put pressures on teenagers to look perfect and get loads of 'likes' and approvement. I have both Twitter and Facebook, had Facebook since age 12 and I sometimes find myself getting caught up in it all. Xx

Yes, it contributes, but adolescents are narcissistic anyway, for the most part. Everyone gets to be a celebrity (in their own mind) on facebook including having a fan base.

For the most part it's a harmless teenage indulgance, the majority of kids outgrow it. For some kids, it can become a living hell, either thru rejection or stalking.

:O Jody, not all adolescents are narcissistic! I'm definitely not, but then again, I don't really use Facebook.
But yes, I tend to see a lot of females posting 'revealing' or close-up pictures of themselves in order to feed their ego. Most people I've seen will post pictures, wait until someone comments on how good they look; and then the original poster will comment back claiming that they're not, and that the other person is [referencing what i saw on one picture] a "stunner"

It's all complete and utter bull$hit
