Social media marketing is all about building relationships. Don't use face book like everyone else does by tagging every one in every pic for every product. Posting links all over the place. Take the time to meet people and find out if they are a good fit for your company. Make sure that you create quality content for your blog. Make sure you are creating back links and syndicating

Never lie. Never spam. Never just broadcast a message out to your connections and call it good. Never be too promotional.

Kerry provides an excellent example how not to do it - she works for the company she pretends to be a customer - not cool. Authenticity is the most precious commodity in social media marketing.

Hi Elliott,

Here are some "don'ts" in social media marketing:

1. Avoid flooding your audience with self-promotion contents. Share tips, tricks, and insights aside from self-promoting. Time is precious and people need to get something out of the time they spend with you.

2. Don’t annoy your followers. If it’s something you personally wouldn’t like to receive, avoid it.

3. Do not join a conversation without knowing what active users are talking about. Listen First. Talk Second.

4. In Facebook, do not tag your fans/followers with all of your photos.

Here's an ebook for more tips on how to focus your time and how to nail your social media marketing campaign. http://nobs.garious.com/

Hope these helps.

You do not want to be too "Spammy". This tends to be a big problem with bigger name companies trying to stress their product or service.

The proper way to market using social networking sites is to be marketing to the people who are potential clients and supplying them with rich unique information that they can benefit right way from and take with them. Don't always just try to be selling a product, sometimes its better to give away your service or product FREE because everyone loves free, and free is what builds the crowds, more "eyeballs" in other words. Think of all the major most traffic-ed sites in the world today, Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Google, Craigslist, ect... What they all have in common is they are all very beneficial to the user and most importantly are FREE!

I go much more into these methods on my site where i of-coarse offer free info on all this works, its about time online marketers got this concept of FREE. And then mabey down the road you can offer a Pro version, but not to start, no one wants to pay upfront. That's way old school.

Enjoy the FREE knowledge!
