Texting the boy that you like?

So theres this guy i know from school and church n we play for the same high school and ive known him since summer of 6th grade( 8th grade now). He used to be kinda mean n not talk 2 me. but then in 7th grade he started texting me and we texted alot about lik everything n then he stopped over the summer. But now this year he talks to me alot n always stares at me n always trys 2 make me laugh n include me on stuff etc but he still never answers my texts. I like him alot n i think he likes me 2 n i want him 2 text me back but i dont want to seem desprate by texting him to the point where it annoying. What can i text him about that him will answer n that we can have a conversation bout? Pls help

Maybe the reason he does not text much is because of financial problems and he may not be able to afford it as much! Maybe ask if he can be friends with you on a network like facebook or twitter if you are not already as its free and at least there are no excuses with him not speaking to you.
Or send him a text and ask what he wants for christmas and you could maybe say you just want him for christmas to be your boyfriend! I know it is cheesy but it may work, or just ask a general question whether he is ready for christmas to start the conversation off!
