You could tell your parents that you can be trusted and will only use Facebook to communicate with your former co-workers. I am sure they are worried about the many negative aspects of FB which may affect you, such as being exposed to malicious people/activity on the internet and your school grades dwindling.
Perhaps you can allow your parents to monitor your Facebook posts/comments, maybe even have one or both of them as your Facebook friends. You could suggest to them that you be on 'probationary status', where any misuse of your FB account means immediate deactivation.
As a minor, you need to prove to your parents that you are responsible. Hopefully they can allow you to use Facebook as a way to continue keeping in touch with friends. God bless

facebook's terms are for users to be aged 13 and over. They don't have parental controls, only privacy settings with which you can control who has access to your profile.

Facebook does have some, very limited protection for under 18s, so if you lie about your age you risk not having these.

When you are the right age, (and I think you possibly are) you need to calmly convince your parents that you won't put yourself at risk and won't spend 24/7 on the computer instead of doing your homework. Lose your temper and you've lost the argument! Every parent wants to protect their child from bullies, fraud, computer viruses and worse; it's only natural. So try to see this from their point of view when you ask!

Some useful material to share with your parents... they'll show you've done some research! You all should watch/read these:
esafety advice for parents: http://hildenoaks.co.uk/project/uploaded...carers.pdf
facebook privacy settings guide: http://www.hildenoaks.co.uk/suggested-fa...ttings.php

Good luck :o)
