Direct messages on twitter?

Is it possible to send a direct message on twitter to someone who is not following you? If not how can you send them a message. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I am new to twitter.

I don't think so, but you can @reply them.

You cannot send a DM to someone if they are not following you.

An @reply is a reply to something someone has said. If you want to say something back to them you put @[then whatever their name is] like mine... @VFC_Girls_4life its not a direct message but they will still see it in their replies. =)
