How can i make sure im not being charged extra on my cell phone?

i have an unlimited social networking plan, which doesnt include data like internet and stuff, just facebook and twitter and BBM. but i recently downloaded a couple of apps that i can use when on internet. but how can i make sure they dont turn on in my pocket, or run in the background when i dont have wifi? because that could cost me a lot of money. Thanks!

Seeing as you have Blackberry, I think you can lock the phone. there are several apps on the store that willhelp you in that.
