It depends who you are trying to reach...local or global

You could set up a "campaign" on http://www.stumbleupon.com

You could use a digital camera & take a video of you talking about why it matters to you & should matter to everyone else & then post it on YouTube, with a link to a website

You could then make a simple, basic, free website on WordPress with more information, pictures, reports, links to articles, which will reinforce your message

Once you have some material or a vehicle for promoting your cause, you can go to sites like http://www.prweb.com & setup a press release. If it is something of interest, then journalists may contact you wanting to run a story in their press about it

Good luck...it sounds a good cause!

I've just read a free report about building lists which are suitable for use on the internet. I'll put the details below in the link. But here's a load of other ideas and principles.

Go viral - use your face-book and twitter account. Ask people to re-tweet or re-post your article out to all their contacts. Set up a quick wordpress (free) blog which you can write your article and put the link in the face-book page onto that. Whilst you are at it, set up a face-book page that people can become fans of. If it captures the imagination people will send it on to others. To make it viral it needs to be what other people care about - so interview as many people as you can about your subject - for example 'why do you think clean water matters'. Use this as the basis for your article.

Find another company who will support you. If you are doing this for a charity, find a complimentary company such as your local starbucks. Put some fliers together such as 'you wouldn't want your coffee made with dirty water would you? So why put up with knowing most of the world has to drink dirty water all the time, every day...and make their kids drink it too?'

Run a competition in your local hyper market/mall. Get a bucket of iced water and challenge people to see who can keep their hands in it the longest. Keep a record of their scores on a board in plain view, and get their email addresses (be aware you need to keep confidentiality and promise that.) Use their email addresses to thank them and point them in the direction of your blog. Use the techniques in the report below to increase the use of those emails. There should be a prize for the person who keeps their hands in the water for longest...why not a $10 voucher for one of the local stores. You might even get the store to sponsor you...get back to starbucks and ask them! Make sure you have some fliers to pass out to all participants.

Getting back to the viral thing, there really is nothing like getting just one person who catches the passion and shares it without wanting paying for it. You need to contact a lot of people to find the one person who will do that for you, but once you do whether you are highlighting an issue or making money, it will go like a dream. The above ideas really are to get the initial contacts, after that build lists and go mad emailing out. That way you maximize the potential of people who will come in with you and help you promote your issue...which might I say is an incredibly worthy cause.

Hope that helps

Voice broadcasting is an excellent way to advertise. You can record your messages regarding lack of clean water and forward them.

Create an event to communicate this... The activities might be about article writing contest about this topic.
The award will attract people to join and they will think more about this issue.
