How to find someone on facebook?

I am friends with a guy in Europe, and I have spent forever looking for him on facebook. I typed in his name, and have went through pretty much everyone and can't find him. I don't know the city he lives in, so I can't type in the city on the search filter. Does facebook even show the people who live in other countries/continents when you type in the name on the search bar? Ugh, someone please help me?

do you know his email address?
maybe he has his profile private meaning no one can find him on the search box unless you know the email adress.

Do you Know His 1st and Last Name if So Type both of that in if you Type in Just his 1st name your Unlikely to Get any Results as Most Likely there will be Lots of People that will have that Same Name Also if you Know his Email Address Type that in and Facebook Can Pull up the account quicker if thats the One thats Tied With His Account
