Why am I so fascinated by Indian/Bengali culture?
So I'm confused as to why I get on so well with and know so much about that area of Asia? Almost 80 percent of my friends are Bengali or Indian or Pakistani? I learn Indian songs really well I must know the words to over 10? I kinda look Asian, I love sarees etc...I also know a lot of Bengali (language-wise) and Indian too. I'm aware of a distant middle eastern root in my family and my father is a British Roma, Roma's originally came from India an the middle east. I also know a lot about Islam, it's actually a beautiful religion! I don't know where this fascination comes from?! I''ve been mistaken for being of mixed Bengali and white before too haha? Where does all this come from, and why am I so fascinated!?

I was born and brought up among the Urdu speaking Pakistanis in Karachi. My parents were from the then East Pakistan that was the reason of my being in the then West Pakistan. I came across Punjabi, Pushtu, Sindhi languages wherein Urdu was prominent and I had my early education upto secondary school level in Bengali (Bangla) medium in Karachi. I was fully exposed to English medium while I was in a technical training institute managed by the Swiss Experts. I came across German language a bit when we would hear our Instructors talking among them. I went to Iran and learned Persian (Farsi) and then exposed to Mandarin (Chinese) while I took three business trip to China. I found that each and every nation or group of people practicing their own language would talk very highly of their language's richness. The same bias is playing on me too and I would say that Bengali as spoken in Kolkata, capital of West Bengal, is so nice to hear than the Bengali we speak in Bangladesh. Therefore, I can understand why you feel inclined to Bengali culture, since your forefathers were from the Western part of present day's India (your father is a British Roma) coupled with the unique 'melody' you will find in Calcatian-Bangla may let you fascinated so much.

I was amazed to read the second part of your statement that says that "I love sarees.." and "I also know a lot about Islam, it's actually a beautiful religion!". I for one is against wearing Saree on occasions other than attending party and formal attire. The western girls and ladies as well as in China the females are 'liberated' from wearing excessive attires and that made them free to move around quickly, briskly and without causing any inconveniences those our Bangladeshi women faces when they go outside and attend work.

The other thing is our religion that is now becoming bondage to the whims of Mullahs who are taking us backward by their orthodox beliefs and practices. I would say that I would like to practice Islam like they do it in Malaysia and Indonesia, if not the way Islam is practiced and observed in Turkey.

You are fascinated now when you are not immersed in this society, but once you come and live among us then you would find that your 'liberty' is being curtailed in the name of observing social code or religious codes. Welcome among us and get the real life experience where there are good things to observe and bad things to abhor (regard with disgust and hatred).

Hope this helps.

Maybe you were there in your most recent past life so you reconnect with that culture.

All is well, EXCEPT Islam. The Colour of Indian Bengali culture is due to its free Hindu traditions, just hit Islamic Pakistan and see..The woman, the men ..all wear colors of White or Black. You should visit India and see that every state is soo vibrant., except that there are some rapists out here Wink..so be careful.
