iTunes will not open on my mac- solutions?

iMovie has done this too for quite some time now. I tried deleting them to try and reinstall the programs but that didn't look like an option since it comes on the Mac software.

It comes up with the error "iTunes quit unexpectedly"

I've tried restarting my computer quite a few times. I've looked at the apple site as well for some solutions but none seem to fix problems that stay for a few days.

Do you have any suggestions on how to fix this?
I don't want to take it into the genius bar yet because I have a feeling they will make me sit around only to tell me to back everything up (which I have done) and then just re-boot the entire system to restore it back to it's original factory settings.
