What is a BA journalism course?
I want to be a beauty journalist/ work for a beauty magazine. I heard the degree I should get is in BA journalism, but I'm not entirely sure what it is? Also, does anyone know of any universities in the north east which offer this? Thanks so much if you can help!

What are the modules?

There are three key strands to this degree course: practical (50 per cent); contextual (30 per cent); and academic (20 per cent). The following indicates the subject areas covered under each of these headings.

Practical

Advanced Writing and Vocational Skills for the Professional World
Performance for Broadcast Journalism
Web Design, Photography and Social Media
Innovation, Enterprise and Marketing

Contextual

Public Administration for Journalists
Ethics and Law for Journalists
Economics and Business for Journalists

Academic

Research Methods
News, Truth and Power
Media, Lifestyle and Culture

Start date and attendance

Start date: September

Duration: Three years

Attendance: An average attendance of three days per week can be expected. Specific days and times of study vary and formal timetables are usually issued a month prior to your course start date. Please note that this information is intended as a guide and is subject to change.
What are the entry requirements?

Applicants will typically be A level students who achieve 200 - 240 UCAS points, or BTEC students with equivalent grades. Applicants must also have GCSE Maths and English at grade C or above, strong communication skills and an interest in journalism or professional communications.
