Can you get into trouble - legally for hacking a Facebook account?
My Facebook account keeps getting hacked. I'm pretty sure of who it might be. I'm just worried because my email address is linked to my PayPal account etc. Is there anything I can do legally? Would the police help? I've since changed all my security settings to high so I don't think they'll be able to do it again but I don't want this person to get away with it completely? Thanks.

Yes but you would have to prove who it was, and still a lot probably won't me done about it unless it is malicious. The most important thing to do is change your password, not just security settings but actually change the password, and then report it.

Who ever it is keeps getting access to your password. You need to check your computer for any programs that are installed called a "key logger". The thing is, it probably won't be called a key logger, it will have a different name. Make sure you are familiar with all programs installed. Run a virus scan, sometimes that picks it up.

Don't EVER use Facebook while using someone elses computer, phone etc. If they have a key logger installed on their computer, they can easily see what your password is, you can change it til you're blue in the face, it will always be accessible to them.

Good luck finding an officer who is prepared to spend the time investigating someone for stealing a Facebook password. Unless the person has stolen money from you, the Police don't want to know about it.

As for using the same email for your Paypal account, I'd change the Paypal email just to be on the safe side.

Unless a crime has been committed the the Police wont want to know.

Hackers are closer to home than you think. It will be someone who knows
you personally and your habits and can get your passwords by pure guesswork!

Passwords should be at least 8/9 characters made up of upper and lower case
letters and numbers and never divulged to anyone.

Also remember ANY account you may hold on the internet is your sole responsibility
as to what goes on in it and no one else's.

The likes of FB and any other site are not interested if you get hacked
because as I said an account is your responsibility alone.

Sorry that may sound harsh but that is the way of the internet now!
