Maria has the following scores on exams in her social studies class: 86, 75, 97, 58, 94, and 58.
a. Find the mean, median, and mode of the scores. b. Should Maria’s social studies teacher use the mean, median, or mode of the exam scores to convince Maria that she needs to study more regularly for her exams? Ads |

For a-
MEAN= add all the numbers together and then divide by however many numbers there are MEDIAN= put them in order from smallest to largest and then cross of the first one, cross off the last one, and keep doing that until u have one number that isnt crossed off...that number should be in the middle MODE= find the number that occurs most often For b- she should use the MEAN Ads |

The mean is the average. Add up all the numbers and divide them by how many numbers there are. To find the mode, just look for the most common number. To find the median, order the numbers least to greatest or vice versa, and find the middle number. If there's two medians, find the mean of them. As for the second question, just use the measure that has the lowest number.

its simple
mean means average so add all the scores:86+75+97+58+94+58, then divide by how many numbers you added so 468 divided by 6 which equals the mean 78. the median is the middle number so arrange all the numbers smallest first:58,58,75,86,94,97 and find the meddle number if there are two add them both so 75 +86 which equals 161 then divide by 2 = 80.5 the mode if the number that occurs the most (or comes up the most) so 58 comes twice while the other scores only come up once so the mode is 58 question 2 this one is easy find the lowest score so the mode. |

I'm not sure if you know how to work out mode, median and mean but I'll explain anyway.
I'll start with the mode as I think it's the easiest. The mode is the number that appears the most. In this case 58. That's your answer. Simple as that. 58 appears twice and the rest only once. I remember mode by it looks similar to most. Mode, most. Median- First order the numbers in size. 58, 58, 75, 86, 94, 97 Now cross off each side until you get to one or two left I'm the middle. If there are a equal number of numbers cross off til you get to the middle two. If there's a odd number of numbers cross off til there's only one left. In this case we have six so we will cross off til there's two left in the middle. The numbers are 75 and 86. Since you need one number and we have two, you'll have the work out the number inbetween 75 and 86, which is 80.5. The answer is 80.5. I remember this by median sounds like medium and your finding the number in the middle. Mean. First add up all of marias scores. 86+75+97+58+94+58=468. Now divide by how many numbers there are. 468 divided by 6 is 78. So it's 78. I remember this by this is the hardest to do so it's 'mean' To recap: Median: 80.5 Mode: 58 Mean: 78 As for B, she would use the mode because it's the lowest number and if Maria thinks she's doing really bad she'll revise. Hope it helps! |
