What is the point in being subscribed to someone on facebook?

So i added someone on facebook, and it now comes up that i have subscribed to them, but i cant message them, and it still says friend request sent, so what is the point in being subscribed to someone?

so you can find out all of their new photos, statuses, and stuff like that

It means that their stuff will always be at the top of your news feed

It means you can see updates from people who haven't accepted your friend requests, celebrities often do this. You can't actually contact them though

If they arent your friends you can't see them.
