What laptop is recommended for someone in highschool?

I'm in Grade 10, and I'm looking for a laptop. I will use it mostly for homework (typing up documents, research, powerpoints, etc), but probably for leisure as well (e-mail, facebook, etc). I don't know much about computers, so what should I be looking for when I purchase a laptop? What specs do i need?

I have a sony vaio and it works great! It's easy and simple to use plus it has 6 months of free anti-virus so for the most difficult part of the year in school, you don't have to worry about and viruses! I seriously highly suggest this fast, easy to use, fun computer! And it is cheap!
