notification problem on android?

i have the galaxy s3, with 4.1 jellybean. and i like it, but one thing i noticed is, l like how on the iphone if you had 3 instagram likes and you didnt look at you phone, there would be a little 3 next to the instagram icon. or if you didnt read 2 facebook messages, there would be a 2 next to the facebook icon. They dont have this on android?

No, android does not have it out of the box. But there are many free apps in the Play Store that will do that for you. Goodluck!
