its more about net worth, because facebook is soooo popular for example, someone would or could make an offer like hey i want that to be my site so ill pay you 100million. and then some bidding war. but also thru advertisement and traffic of how popular the site is.

through the advertisements placed all over each page. companys pay to put their ads on a website, especially myspace or facebook since they have so many people that use the website.
