How do I speak to my boss about some issues?
I have a new co-worker who i try to get along with, but she is always being rude to me. She is also always taking smoke breaks and going on facebook. The boss knows about the smoke breaks, but not about facebook. Also, I don't feel like I have a defined work description. I need to feel good about what I do, but I feel like I am being undermined by this coworker. Also we agreed to compromise on music choice. She however, decided to override that and listens to whatever. I find it extremely rude. Help?

While job description and satisfaction needs to be addressed with your boss, your coworker should not be mentioned. Your boss is not a babysitter. You need to work these little issues out between you and your coworker without your boss getting involved. Asking the boss for help and/or reporting on your coworker's Facebook habit will only make you look juvenile and petty. Find a better way to express your feelings about job satisfaction to your boss.

Hi Snively, am interested to know what type of work environment you work in; is it an office setting, manufacturing, food service, health service, etc?

As far as her work ethics, stay clear of that issue and let your boss deal with it. If you try to meddle you'll end up appearing as a negative busy-body to your boss. Focus on your own tasks and do the best job you can.

About your job description; sit down with your boss and ask him what the tasks are that you are to completed. However, NEVER complain because bosses want solutions, not complaints. Present yourself in such a way that your need of a job description will benefit the company because you will have a clear definition of the assignments, can plan your workload and prioritize in such a way that will benefit everyone.

Is the music you complain about coming from a radio in her work area, or through her computer or ??
