how to get push notifications on the samsung galaxy s2?

i had my galaxy s2 for tmobile since February but then for whatever reason the old one broke. i now have the new updated one and i don't get the facebook notifications on the top bar anymore. it still shows if i have missed calls or texts but doesnt inform me when i get a facebook message or anything like that. i went to settings on the app and everythings checked. is there anything else i need to do to get this to work? if anyone could help that'd be great.

very simple. open up whichever app you need to setup, say facebook. once you open the app press the menu button and then choose settings go to your notifications box and click it on it is more likely not checked. same applies to your email apps and twitter or whatever app has notification on the status bar. good luck!
