Until the Yahoo IT engineers and technicians "Fix" the "eternal" YA avatar glitches, you are going to get stuck in an endless computer program command loop and end up back where you started on this web page UNLESS you click the "Save changes" button and get "Avatar Saved" above your new avatar. Then you get to wait and keep "clicking the "Save changes" button like I have been doing for the last 8 MONTHS AND COUNTING.

You can use a photo or a Yahoo! cartoon avatar, and if you have a Facebook or Twitter account, you can also use those avatars.

Go to: http://profile.yahoo.com/y/settings/privacy/ - make sure your profile isn't hidden, because if it is, your avatar won't show.

If you want a cartoon avatar, go here to create one: http://avatars.yahoo.com/ - then click on "Yahoo!" under "Export your Avatar".

In case you want to use a Facebook or Twitter avatar, you need to link those accounts in the Profile options.

You have several options in case you want a photo avatar:
a) go to your Yahoo! Answers settings at http://answers.yahoo.com/my-activity/edit/about , click "Update photo or avatar",
b) go to your Yahoo! Profile at http://profile.yahoo.com/ , click on the current avatar.
Now upload a picture or choose one of the pics you've uploaded previously.

Note: you need to use a desktop computer in order to change your avatar, you can't do it with a mobile.

You have to wait. This problem is happening to lots of users at the same time. Yahoo knows about it and will fix it.... but we don't know when.
