The media influences what is the socially normal. The media portrays that you have to be thin to be beautiful.

The media, in my opinion, has quite a negative effect on not only young people but everyone. It pushes the ideas of 'perfection' and what is socially right (such as being skinny) and what is socially wrong (such as wearing certain clothes) when in reality, there is no one to say if these things are right or wrong, yet due to the media being everywhere we go and essentially unavoidable, these sorts of things are pushed upon us causing us to believe what is right.
