How do you watch a dvd movie on windows 8?
So I had windows vista, I typically just pop in the disc and watch. I recently upgraded to win 8, I pop in the disc and nothing happens. Took me forever to find windows media player, and that wont play the disc either, nor will a recently downloaded VLC player. : /
Win 8 is a fresh install, everthing on vista worked good. VLC just crashes.
Update, installed a program called, "Easy DVD Player" from download.com
So far its working, not a very good performing program in-terms of video quality nor playback smoothness.

VLC doesn't work? Then something is wrong with your computer.

Insert the disk. If no options are listed on autoplay (don't tell me W8 also doesn't have Autoplay!), close it. Go to Computer (if W8 has a way to "go to Computer":-0, right click on the DVD icon and use Open With to see if there are any viable options. If the disk is HD, you need a player that will play HD videos - and not all of them will. If the disk is in standard video format (not HD), then any player that's compatible with W8 should play it.

Depending on the particular configuration of your computer, most manufacturers include a DVD player with their machines. Since you've upgraded your Vista machine to Windows 8, I'm guessing that your old player either isn't installed anymore or isn't compatible with the new operating system - and I know that Windows 8 doesn't have Media Center.

For future reference, here's a list of things that Windows used to have but that are not included with Windows 8.

The answer is the second bulleted point in the list:
Built-in (Microsoft provided) DVD playback in Windows Media Player will not be available on the Windows 8 platform even with addition of the Media Center Pack

It looks like you're going to have to look for a DVD player to install.
