Are the old iPod touches having typing problems?

My boyfriend either has the 2nd or 3rd generation of the iPod touch. lately, every time hes been messaging anyone on Facebook, through email or whatever his messages have been messed up. They either space out really weird, are missing letter and words. no one can understand whats being sent. is there a bug or something? we'd really like to fix it and see whats going on and we've tried everything we can think of. so if anyone else has this or has had this problem or knows something, please answer me back! Thank you.

How do things look from his end when he's typing? If they look fine and then only when they're sent letters are missing, then I don't know what to say. Maybe try restoring the iPod touch from a backup. Or is he able to write proper messages if he's just patient as it types?

If there's lag and the keyboard is just slow when he tries to type, maybe he should see if there are too many background apps running slowing it down. (Double tap home, hold an app icon, and press the little minus sign to end the process.)
