What's the difference between Facebook, Myspace and Twitter?
I've heard of them, but aren't these all social networking sites? What's their purpose and function?

Personal Taste, myspace has more a webpage type layout for your profile page. Facebook just has a "wall" which is like a community board you can post to with no other options. Twitter just posts a short message that people who follow your status can see. Most people post things like "I just got back from whataburger I love bacon!" or some random thing they are currently doing and then got bored and decided to share it with the world. Celebs and other businesses etc use it to keep you in the news reel. With updates on products, concerts, etc. completely different than facebook and myspace.

**EDIT** They are all free, just go sign up for all of them and see what you like. Facebook has a lot of twitter integration so you can use them hand and hand. Not sure about myspace however. Myspace has become flooded with wanna be rappers spamming people's videos and comment boxes. Almost everyone I know is switching/has switched to facebook.

facebook is mostly adults and they usually use it to meet other people or to connect with family

myspace is mostly teens and a lot of celebrities and for teens it's to connect to friend and look at pictures of hot girls even though they have no idea who that person is, and for celebrities it's to stay in touch with fans

twitter is not a big site. it's mostly to see what people are doing or for other people people to stay up to date with what you're doing. celebrities also use twitter so fans can see what they've been doing

I'm not sure if you want to use them for business or personal but here's my take on it from a business perspective:

MySpace: Can establish a page for business but check to see if your demographics use it for that purpose.

FaceBook: Great for business if you are using a Fan page because you can have unlimited amount of fans. The paid advertising is great because you can create a very specific target so only the people you want to reach will see your ad.

Twitter: The best for what happening now because you can easily do real-time searches with Twitter's advance search feature. Twitter can integrate with quite a few other social media tools. Meaning you can use Twitter to make updates to Facebook, LinkedIn, Ning, MySpace etc.
