Can someone give me a thesis statement on why the media encourages stereotypes?
I'm pretty much all done with my essay except for the introductory paragraph. It's a persuasive college essay with the topic, "do mass media encourage or discourage racial stereotypes?"

My position is that they do encourage it but i can't seem to put it together in a sentence.
If you could help me out i'd greatly appreciate it!

This is gonna sound lame, but it's not meant to be...

Here's your thesis:

"Mass media encourages racial stereotypes."

You'd want to embellish it a bit, but that's basically it.

You have indicated two different questions here. From your statement it appears that you are answering a yes/no question: do mass media encourage racial stereotypes? And your answer is yes. But for your thesis statement, you want to answer a different question: WHY do mass media encourage racial stereotypes? Did you address this "why" question anywhere in your paper? If so, then you should be able to come up with reasons why. But if you have NOT addressed this issue in the paper, then you don't want to bring it up as part of your thesis statement. You should use an alternative thesis statement, such as "Racial stereotypes continue to be used in mass media depictions of minorities despite change in social attitudes toward race. This paper will provide examples to support this claim by reviewing...."
