What would be good websites to meet new people?

I have been on social networking websites for a long time, but I've been kind of bored with facebook and twitter, and decided I am going to join a website to meet NEW people from different places around the world. I've tried IMVU but am not finding the idea of a "virtual world" very interesting and would much prefer if things were just normal like facebook. So, I am wondering, are there websites for that? If so, which do you suggest?
Edit: I am NOT looking for a dating websites. Just a friendly website. Sorry for the confusion ._.

social networking sites are no good for meeting partners most people do not join for that reason. Also FB people are not vetted so your safety is compromised.

dating agencies are better but only the ones you pay, the free ones will be full of cheap charlies who say they left there wallet at home. The best ones are paid sometimes its onlys the men who pay and the women its free. Also the good news is roughly the agencies have about 40 % Female to 60% Male so the odds are for you. Good Luck.
