Always had good grades until now?
I'm a sophomore in highschool and I've always had a 4.0 and above but this quarter I got two D's because of problems at home but things are better now but report cards come out this Friday and I have to take grade forgiveness for those two courses and I'm dying. I've alread cried it out and my teacher basically told me I might as well start practicing "would you like fries with that?" But if this is my only bad quarter out of all 4 years will colleges really care?

Wow as I was reading your question I honestly almost cried. I literally went though the same exact thing. I know that grades are extremely important, especially sophomore and junior year, and that's was makes everything worse. I felt like I would never get into a good college, but don't let your hopes down.

D's will definitely not look flattering on your collage apps, but it's more important for you to make sure to receive better grades later because junior year is about 20x more important.

If you were honestly and truly trying as hard as you can in the classes with you got upsetting grades in, then I would say that the classes are maybe going a little to fast for you. It's nothing too bad even though, yes, unfortunately it did make an impact on your grade. In my case, I got a D in PreCalc H so I ened up dropping to math analysis. At the time, I thought dropping a class was the worst thing that you could ever do, but honestly it was not anything you can't fix. If you did indeed try really hard but couldn't bring your grade up no matter what you did, I suggest, since 2nd semester's just getting started, dropping at least one of those classes. You can always take the course online or at a community college over summer if you still want get the credit of the completion of that level and move on to the next course after that next year.

If you know that you were slaking off, procrastinating, wasting time on the internet, etc. and you really believe that if you tried you are capable of getting a good grade, then you should cut off anything that is making your focus wander, whether it's deleting your Facebook account, blocking Youtube and other sites from your home wifi, or telling your friend not to chat/text you. This might be really hard to do for most people, it was for me, but if you really care for your future, that might be the best solution. And although this is not completely necessary, but I highly recommend to get a tutor or two for the subject(s) you struggled with.

I really hope I at least inspired you to take action and look forward instead of looking back. Although it might be painful to think about the grades, sadly, regret does not help you whatsoever. I only wastes your time. Instead, look forward and see that you can do to make things ok again. I know I sort of said A LOT, but I really truly wish I helped in some way Smile
