Specs for a music production Mac ?
I'm looking into purchasing a Mac for producing music. I already have to studio quality monitors and a US-122L interface. I've been working off of a pc. I'm looking at either buying a new or used iMac or a Mac Pro, but i'm not too sure what specs i should have the computer meet. I'm wondering if the processor offered with the new 27" iMac (3.4GHz Quad-core Intel Core i7, Turbo Boost up to 3.9GHz) with 32 Gb of ram would be enough to do my productions, without a hiccup. This would include a lot of virtual instruments and other plugins.
Also, the new iMac's don't leave much room for customization, so would it be better to get a Mac Pro instead? I'm a little worried about buying a computer used also.
So basically i'd like to know what the minimum specs I should have are, and if i should spend the extra money and get a Mac Pro, or if i should trust buying either a used iMac or Mac Pro? Does anyone have reliable links on buying them? Also, if buying the iMac, should i spend the extra money for the flash storage, and use it with an external hard drive, or is the 7200 rpm good enough?
