Mac Mini display doesnt work after hard shutoff. How can i fix it?

I have a mini that i bought in 2008/9 and it is connected to my tv with a HDMI cable. I had to hard shut it off, and upon rebooting, nothing shows up on my screen. The sound it makes when it starts up doesnt come on either, but the light showing the computer is on is there and you can here it running. Is there a way to fix this without taking it in?
