How can I get the phone icon to show up on the facebook chat?? Please help?

Ok, I just got facebook on my iPod touch, and I activated text messaging. I logged in to another facebook account to see if there's a phone icon and there isn't! It just says I'm not on chat! If I use facebook messenger app it puts me online! How can I not appear online to everybody and just have a phone icon? Please help?

while using fb on i pod it may not show phone icon...

but when using fb messenger you can only get phone icon, and this shows that you are online but in a phone...
