Why do I get notifications when certain people post statuses or pictures on Facebook?

Recently I have been receiving notifications when certain friends post on their Facebook timeline. When I click under my notifications, there is a little symbol next to the post that is a newspaper with a star next to it. I never created a "Close Friends" list, so I'm not sure why this continues to pop up for certain users. Does it have anything to do with the number of views on a particular page?

u may have added them by mistake to ur close frnds..just check tht option once..
also its possible tht u are tagged in their posts...or mentioned
