Sending a Facebook message to racist person on Facebook?
This girl on Facebook uploaded a picture of herself and captioned it, "It's official. I smile like an Asian." Which pisses me off because I'm half Asian, and I don't smile like that, and neither do most people considering she posed that way on purpose. She's racial stereotyping, which subsequently is racism. Everyone has their own unique smile anyways. I already reported her, but I was considering sending her a polite message asking her to remove the caption because I found it offensive. The girl is white by the way. I found this extremely offensive. I know this might sound small(especially if you're white and you wouldn't understand what it's like to automatically be the odd-one-out everywhere you go), but think about it. I live in a small rural town in Tennessee. Most people are white. The first thing people ask me when they meet me is "What are you?" I've been dealing with racism since I was seven, and two adult males harassed while I was by myself in the bathroom at Wal Mart. Here, racist jokes are the norm, and people repeatedly make fun and gawk about Latinos or Asians, and sometimes even African Americans. However the first two suffer more abuse because most southerners are under the impression that it's wrong to be racist against African Americans, however, since Latinos or Asians never went through the same pain as African Americans, it's okay to occasionally joke about them or say seriously racist things.

Am I overreacting? Or is my desire to defend myself against racial stereotyping easily justifiable and I should just send the girl my damn message? Thanks!

I wouldn't respond at all. Consider yourself a bit more aware and above the rest if you don't lower yourself to their racist activity. It's harsh, but that's the way it is. You can't change it.
