How can you tell if your pretty?

Hi, I'm just a really curious person. It's not like I'm fishing of compliments or anything,
So how can you really tell if your pretty?
I'm in high school and I'm in average group, not popular or weirdos. I know that it's all about your personality ad if you have a good one then your beautiful but how come some girls, they were tons of make up and they dress sluty , people think they're gorgeous? And those nice girls but not popular, people think they're ugly?
It's like on Facebook. If your popular heaps of people will like your picture even though it's just a photo of your red lips. And those nice beautiful girls only get like 3 likes?
I'm really confuse.
I'm 14 and have black hair, dark brown eyes, tan skin, I'm not really skinny, I'm curvy but not fat. My friends, families tells me I'm pretty or gorgeous in every way. But for some reason I don't believe them, I keep on thinking maybe they are just being nice?
When I change my pro pic on fb I get like 22 likes and good comments.

So this makes me so confuse because I'm not really popular or anything but I'm a really smart girl. Sorry if I ask yous heaps of questions but can anyone explain it to me please??
