They are the only minority the Republicans have any chance of improving their voting record with.

Its the Reconquista and its well under way.

Democrats KNOW that Mexico and S America are all Marxist-Socialists so they are eager to get those millions of votes here.

Other immigrants? Not too important to democrats.

Rubio wants visa immigrants as you listed to return to their own countries and apply for re-entry. I say Rubio is a racist, has a Latino agenda to destroy the USA by flooding our country with 30+ million Democrat voters who will vote away all of our rights under the constitution.

Because there are so many of them as opposed to all the rest of the people coming into this country that they are changing the demographics of the country. You might add to your list, "Why should teachers have to be bilingual in Spanish and English", by law in some states.

Because the media is treating them the same way as they treated black people in the 50's-60's.

Actually, that's an intriguing question. Truthfully, Cubanos have always leaned toward the right and the Republican Party, but all the raving about "deportation" forced a lot of them the other way in the last couple of elections. The reason: every family STILL has folks reposing in the "home country", and threats of deportation are taken seriously and negatively by the law-abiding. And Puerto Ricans, of course, are U.S. citizens the day they're born, yet the crazy ravings from crackpots like Bachmann have so offended them that they, too, have turned away from the Republicans. There are many folks in the Southwest, here for hundreds of years, whose great grandparents were born here, who are bilingual, but in dung holes like the con man Arpaio's Arizona, wind up doing jail time for "passing through".

Point being, there are indeed a lot of illegal or borderline Asians of various stripes, nationalities, and colors in the U.S., and a pretty obvious minority of "iffy" Haitians (black folks with French accents tend to attract negative attention in the U.S.), and the ultra-right neo-fascists of the "Teabagger Turncoat" movement don't seem to say much about them.

However, illegals in general can't get welfare, except for short term maternity aid. And those safeguards are intense and very, very solid, despite lies from cretins like Hannity and O'reilly on b.s. t.v.

Yet, they DO drain some other resources in odd ways. Along the southern border, many are "drug mules", and interestingly, lately, the effective immigration rate across the Mexican border is about zero. Trouble is, those who come in are almost ALWAYS carrying contraband. The reduced rate of illegal immigration is largely due to the slow recovery from the recession of 2007-early 2009. And of course, some of the corporations that have HUGE recruiting efforts for illegals (and don't kid yourself, there are hundreds of them, paying sub-minimum and "gang" wage rates!) aren't getting as much response.

The right also ignores the fact that Latino population in the U.S. has been here and generic since LONG before the revolution. New Mexico is called that for a reason, and Colorado and California don't get their names from the Polish language, you know. Look up Hispanic surnames in Nevada and Texas...and bear in mind, most will be legal if they have land line telephones. But ALL of them have some family back in the "mother country"...same with Chinese, Hmong, and even Hindi/Indian immigrants.

Another myth: that illegals can vote. Fox' main hogwash on that subject involved Spanish-speaking persons in Florida and New Jersey. They backed off, but what mattered was, those folks were BORN in the United States, and some were third and fourth generation. They were relying upon the customary ignorance of their viewers, and intended to convince some that these folks were "Mexican"...most of this got caught before their usual propaganda trash got aired.

"why are we just bending over backwards to appease Latinos?"

Is that really the basis of your question? That's nonsense.
