Is my hermit crab dead? [ or dying? ]?
Ok, so my mom and I went to a boardwalk in New Jersey. There was a store that sold hermit crabs and my mom said I could buy one. I picked out a medium sized one. We got a wire mesh hermit crab cage and some food. The lady selling them gave us a pamphlet on how to care for hermit crabs. Among other things it said they like company. So the next day we bought two more [ A big and a small ] from a upscale pet shop. I noticed that the two from the upscale pet shop were much more active and social. The one from the boardwalk was REALLY shy. I noticed he wasn't eating. I picked him up and looked at him. One of his legs was starting to fall off. It's been three days and he hasn't moved all day. It's getting me really worried. Is he dying? Is he DEAD? Can I do anything to help? I would like answers from someone who has experience with hermit crabs. Thanks!

i would say its dead put your finger in the shell and if its legs move its alive if not you might want to consider throwing it away

Usually hermit crabs only leave limbs laying around when they are a) dead or b) molting, but if your crab was molting he would be digging himself into the sand. Unfortunately, your crab is probably dead.

Poke at him a little if he is stiff, he is alive, but very injured, if he is limp and falls out, he's dead, and by the way, wire is deadly to hermit crabs
