Why do liberals forget that the standard of living for the average American increased nearly 100-fold?
Since the beginning of the 20th century? This incredible phenomenon can be attributed to the industriousness and entrepreneurial characteristics of Americans fostered by a mostly free marketplace (i.e. capitalism). Are libs really this dumb? Are they incapable of critical thought? Can they not look around and see the incredible modern technological innovations that provide them comfort came as a result of free markets and rule of law?
Hey fried kitten,

The tax dollars that fund government research done by the NIH, DOD, etc. come from where? Oh ya, tax dollars come from the people, people participating in markets that generate wealth. Governments create nothing, and are funded by the people. No serious conservative is against government research and development, and that you took my question to imply that shows your weak comprehension skills. The greatest government R&D inventions like GPS, the internet, and microchips were all the result of defense department research. You know about any conservative politicians who want to reduce defense research? I don't think so.

100 years ago did the average person have a car, washing machine, cell phone, dishwasher, tv, computer, golf clubs, central heat and air, microwave, electricity?

Who says they don't know? Do you know international policies dating back to WWII that influenced "why they hate us"? Do you know about all the factories being closed, all the communication jobs, and many others being sent overseas. They pay them less than $1 a day, no benefits, retirement and sometimes lock them in the building with no way out. That way the stock market goes up and the Americans are paid less. Jobs are overseas while our population keeps expanding. This is not the turn of the 20th century where everyone could see opportunity around them. Believe me I'm fond of American History and have done genealogy for 40 years. There is no comparison. In fact, what I have known to be and what my own relatives fought to have are being destroyed by the change in capitalism and greed of today.

You obviously haven't lived abroad.

Our standard of living is great to some, but when you compare our healthcare system, education system, our infrastructure to other others, we fall behind quite badly. Standard of living and free market capitalism are two separate entities.

Cheers.

Liberals have it all wrong, they know so much that isn't so.
The Liberal ideology is a theory , fostered by a delusional, illogical minority and which holds forth beliefs that have no basis in reality.
They are Advocates of a policy that empowers a strong federal government to enslave its people with a high tax burden incident to the support of extravagant and unnecessary social programs destructive to both the work ethic among the lower class, and the incentive to innovate and succeed among the working class.

THIS LIBERAL IS GOING TO PUT YOU IN YOUR PLACE.

(1)

Firstly, nobody is buying your bullsh\t in that “the standard of living for the
average American increased nearly 100-fold [over the last 100 years]”.

From a logistical perspective this would mean the following:

In 1913 a factory worker worked 1 hour to make enough money
to buy one plate of spaghetti.

In 2013 that same factory worker works 1 hour but with his money
from that hour’s work now he can buy 100 plates of spaghetti.

That is what a 100-fold standard-of-living increase means.
So yes, you are not that smart Alpha.

(2)

‘Modern technological innovations’ were not only fueled by capitalism.
Thanks to grants & loans by the government many poor people were
able to go to college and to make discoveries that benefit mankind.

You are also neglecting the NIH which did vast research into the
human genome project, which is just one example, and which then
made its findings available to the public for free so that private industry
could use this valuable information (generated by government employees)
to expand upon development of treatments based upon the human genome
(DNA, etc.) which ties in with stem cell research.

(3)

It amazes me that people like you can be so full of yourself that you
will call others ‘dumb’ when you clearly have nothing in the realm of
intelligence to brag about.

CONGRATULATINS IN BEING OWNED BY A LIBERAL.

--- EDIT ---

100-FOLD

The material things that are now part of the American lifestyle cannot be
quantified; especially since TV, for example, didn’t exist 100 years ago.

Why not say ‘750-fold’; you are pulling a number out of a hat as it is!

My point is that trying to sound flashy with fancy figures of speech
only makes a person sound dumb. Trying too hard to sound important.

COMPREHENSION (1)

You state that my ‘weak comprehension’ led me to misunderstand
your question. You should read your question again.
It is quite vague actually and it begs to be misunderstood.
I’m not just saying that to bust bollz.

COMPREHENSION (2)

So really, what the hell are you asking?

Since your question is vague (as I stated before) I am led to believe
that you are implying that liberals have something against capitalism.

As a liberal I will inform you that liberals have absolutely nothing against
capitalism. Though we certainly like regulation. I don’t want another
Bernie Madoff or another Housing Crisis which were both the result of
lack of regulation.

Sorry if I’m going above your head but you see you haven’t made it clear
what you are asking or even if you have any good knowledge of anything.

MILITARY SPENDING

I don’t mean to insult you but it is quite naïve to believe that all of the money
that goes into military spending is used wisely for defense and development.

This ought to clear it up for you:

(You should stop bashing liberals when you don’t know what you’re talking about.)

What the hell are you smoking? Of course liberals know that things have improved. That's the entire crux of their political philosophy: that things have gotten better and that it's possible for them to continue getting better. That's why they are and were in favor of things like the improvements in working conditions brought about through unionized labor, education, government works programs, etc. etc. It's conservatives who blindly believe in some weird Ozzy and Harriet fantasy that says everything in the 1950s was perfect and that the country has just gone to hell in a handbasket since then. Conservatives are the ones that want to take social progress back to the 1800s. Conservatives are the ones who want to slash the size of government- or better yet get rid of it entirely. Not liberals.
