im 16 and im not on social networking sites, does that make me boring or lame?
I use to have Facebook but i deactivated a few months ago because i just got tired of people seeking attention and crying about dumb sh*t. I have plenty of friends, im good with the girls so dont think im some weirdo socially awkward dude but All my friends say if i get twitter or instagram ill get b*tches and to stay relevant around school and stuff like that. A lot of people say its lame and im weird cause i dont be on sites like that. I just do me, if people wanna talk to me they can call/text me. I just think having a twitter, instagram, and a facebook is time consuming and honestly i just dont feel like sharing what i am doing or my thoughts to a bunch of people most of them i dont even know. recently this girl that i was talking to said im boring and i must be insecure cause i dont do all that stuff. like wtf???? Should i just make a twitter or instagram just because im a teenager and thats what everyone does? i want answers from teens like my self, adults just dont understand i tried to talk to my parents about it, and well...you know.

Quite the contrary if you are doing something different to your peers then that is expressing your individuality.

Props to you!!! I personally could never deactivate my account for that long of a period.... but yeah i do get what you are talking about, facebook consumes a lot of time and there are a lot of fame whores on there... facebook is even worse now with the follow system... it is basically like youtube now.
But yeah.. not having a facebook expresses your individuality. You roll away from where the crowd goes. i am making you seem like a hipster which you probably are not, you just dont like facebook. I try to make excuses for why i have a facebook, like "I need it to pm my friends if we had homework" and stuff like that. which is mostly untrue. |

I think you're being smart... My friend was on Twitter before... She probably wasn't careful enough, but a cyber-stalker ID'd her, got her IP address, and began harassing her ever since. It happens more often on social media sites than not... Or so we've since learned. And frankly, I think your time can be spent on better things-make you a smarter person and a better speller anyways...
