I can't see my friends status updates on my newsfeed or his timeline?

My friend blocked me a few weeks ago as a joke and then unblocked me a few days later. It was fine and nothing was wrong until I went on his timeline because he told me to look at the video he shared, the only thing I could see on his timeline was that he changed his cover photo and all the stuff he posted before he blocked me.. Why won't facebook let me see his status updates and his shares now? His status updates etc. don't come up on my newsfeed either

There is a way to hide your status updates from specific friends. When you update it go to the bottom right corner should have like 2 people frames I guess and click it. You can change it to from friends only, everyone or custom. Allowing you to block from certain people. Maybe it's that? Hope it helps. Sorry it's a long answer.
