If I have facebook chat off and I read a message does it show up as seen?

Will it because I have an annoying friend that messages me so I turn off my facebook chat sometimes but when it shows I have a message I click it but does it show up as seen?

Yes. Here's one way it won't be marked as seen. Keep the dialogue open and when they message you, you'll get a notification or whatever and it'll show up on your open dialogue but if you don't click it it won't be marked as seen. You can tell if you haven't clicked it or not when it's blinking.
